TikTok is now home to around 1.9 billion monthly active users and the highest engagement rate of any major social platform — and, crucially, it’s where people go to decide what to buy.
About 63% of users say they discover new products and brands on TikTok, outpacing Google Search, and 61% report finding a brand they’d never heard of while scrolling.
It converts, too: TikTok Shop drove roughly $15.8 billion in US sales in 2025, with small businesses making up about a third of those transactions.
So your customers are already on TikTok, already in a buying mood. The real question is whether you can catch them when they reach out.
This guide covers what a TikTok Business Account is, how it differs from a personal account, and the exact steps to set it up.
A TikTok Business Account is a free account type designed for brands and businesses that want to use TikTok to market their products, engage with customers, and grow their presence.
It gives you access to tools for analytics, advertising, customer messaging, and other features built specifically for businesses on TikTok.
A TikTok Business Account is a good fit for any business using TikTok to attract customers, promote products or services, run advertising campaigns, or engage with potential buyers.
Whether you’re an e-commerce brand, local business, education provider, or service company, a Business Account gives you the tools needed to manage your presence more effectively.
Next, let’s compare TikTok Business and Personal Accounts to help you decide which one is right for your goals.
Every TikTok account starts as a personal account by default. Switching to a Business Account is free, but it comes with trade-offs worth knowing before you make the move.
One thing worth clarifying: TikTok previously had separate “creator” and “personal” account types. Those were merged a few years ago. Today, the terms “personal account” and “creator account” mean the same thing.
| Feature | Business Account | Personal Account |
| TikTok Ads Manager | Yes | No |
| Analytics | Advanced business insights | Standard analytics |
| Business Messaging | Yes (supported regions only) | No |
| Commercial Music | Commercial Music Library only | Full TikTok music library |
| Website link in bio | Earlier access (eligibility varies by region) | Follower requirements apply |
| Account privacy | Public only | Public or private |
| Creator monetization | No | Yes |
Before you create or switch to a TikTok Business Account, there are a few things worth checking so the setup goes smoothly.
You need to use the TikTok mobile app to switch to a Business Account. Before you begin, have the following ready:
TikTok Business Account features vary by region. Before you set up, check that the tools you need are available where your business operates.
Once you’ve confirmed that the features you need are available in your region, switching to a Business Account usually takes just a few minutes.
Setting up a TikTok Business Account takes just a few minutes. Follow these steps in order.
Open TikTok on your phone and tap Profile at the bottom right of the screen.
Tap the three-line menu icon in the top-right corner of your profile, then tap Settings and privacy.
Tap Account, then select Switch to Business Account.
Select the category that best describes your business. This helps TikTok personalize content and solutions for your account. Tap Next to continue.
Once switched, fill in your business details:
Your existing content, followers, and account history are preserved after switching.
You can revert to a personal account at any time by following the same steps and selecting Switch to Personal Account. Switching back means losing access to Business Account features such as business analytics, Ads Manager, and the Commercial Music Library.
Once you switch to a TikTok Business Account, you gain access to tools for analytics, advertising, and customer messaging.
The analytics dashboard is broken down into three tabs.
All three tabs let you choose a date range, from the last 7 days up to 60 days, or set a custom range.
With TikTok Ads Manager, you can allocate budget to content that is already performing well. In supported markets, you can also run Messaging Ads that let interested viewers start a conversation with your business instead of visiting a landing page.
Eligible Business Accounts can integrate with third-party platforms using TikTok’s business APIs. In markets where Business Messaging is supported, Wati’s TikTok integration can bring TikTok conversations into the same shared inbox as WhatsApp and Instagram, giving your team a single view of customer conversations across channels.
Setting up a TikTok Business Account is only the first step. The real value comes from using its analytics, advertising, and messaging tools consistently.
Your analytics are now tracking what works. You can run ads that open conversations directly. And when customers message you, those conversations should not get lost in a separate app.
If you are already using Wati for WhatsApp, connecting to TikTok takes minutes. Your TikTok DMs land in the same inbox as your WhatsApp and Instagram conversations, so your team manages everything in one place.
